Describe your job. I work with the team responsible for taking care of our Ocean Voyager exhibit. This exhibit houses four whale sharks, the largest fish in the world, and four manta rays, the first and only mantas in the United States. Ocean Voyager contains approximately 6.3 million gallons of water and houses thousands of marine animals from the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
How long have you been in your position?
7 years
What is your background that helped get you the job?
I have worked at several other aquariums, and the experiences I gathered at each helped prepare me for this position. I benefitted from the knowledge shared with me by others and look forward to working with different individuals in hopes of doing the same. In that my degree is in a nonrelated field, I am a reflection of those I have worked for and with.
What is the favorite thing about your job?
I enjoy the fact that I can never know for certain what any given day entails.
Describe your favorite memory or experience in your current job position.
Being part of the team that transported our whale sharks is a memory I will never forget. The whale shark transport from Taiwan to Georgia was a record-breaking 8,277 miles.
Do you have a favorite animal? Why is it your favorite?
Our manta rays are my favorite. It was their picture in a book I read as a child that sticks with me to this day.
